History of Javea
Els Bous al Carrer (Bulls in the Street)

For many years, bulls have played one of the most important roles in the local popular fiestas.

The “bouers” and the young people who turn 18 that year are the people responsible for organising the festivities. A series of barriers are installed to close off certain streets, leaving an enclosed area.

The event begins when the bulls are driven, as happens in the San Fermin festivities in Pamplona, along the enclosed streets to an improvised corral, with the young people running alongside the bulls.

The raison d'être of this fiesta is to challenge danger. The bulls (Els Bous) are a typical youth fiesta because of the danger involved.

This tradition is celebrated during the fiestas of the town's patron saint and in the fiestas of some districts of the town (in September they are held on the port promenade, and also in the fiestas of Jesus of Nazareth and the San Juan bonfires).
