Jávea-Xàbia, has a rich history, possibly due to its special situation on the coast. The exact position of the town, the climate, together with the rich soil of the valley, meant that many colonists and invaders decided to settle here.
Possibly the most important and relevant periods in Javea-Xàbia’s history are its Romanisation and the Muslim era.
The town of Jávea has many customs inherited from ancient cultures.
The most noteworthy of these popular traditions are: “Bous al Carrer” (Bulls in the Street); the Town Fiestas; Gastronomy; “Els Colombaires” (Pigeon-fanciers); “Pilota Valenciana” (Local version of Pelota); the Fish Auction; Raisins; “Los Rederos” (Fishing-net Makers) and the Market.
Jávea has many fiestas during the year, both in the town and in the area of the Port. |
