Gastronomy of Benidorm

Original Bendiorm cuisine can still be found in many of the restaurants in Benidorm, the classic Valencian Paella is the main stay of all Benidorm food but with the sea and rich inland farming there is more to the local gastronomy than just Paella.

The 300 km's of coastline that separate Valencia from Villajoyosa, a small fishing town which is around 10kms from Benidorm is the true home of Pealla and the area of Pego was recognized as the major producer of rice for the whole of Spain.

The preparation of paella varies from region to region and even family to family with the classic Spanish argument of whether the rice goes into the water or the water goes into the rice still being debated!

The ingredients can also vary and this has more to do with what produce was available locally in times of the past than in today's supermarket world.

An example of this is the use of Rabbit and a lot of chicken in Denia to the north of Benidorm and the extensive use of fish on the Costa Blanca.

Benidorm's food is not just about what is traditional to the area the whole of Spain are represented by many of the restaurateurs. In fact it is now possible to visit Benidorm and leave without ever eating a Spanish Meal.

With the onslaught of mass tourism and the ever changing palettes of today tourist all the usual foods that we have now come to take for granted such as Pasta, Pizzas and Curries can be enjoyed in Benidorm.

Our advice for today's traveler is too sample a little of all of Benidorms Gastronomy, go for tapas, definitely eat some paella and seafood and why not go for a curry one night as well.
